The NCCCO Foundation and the National Safety Council (NSC) have cooperated through their "Zero Jobs" initiative to develop a free online tool to help companies and individuals using cranes and other loading and unloading equipments to improve safety on construction sites.
The tool provides a range of controls designed to address the most serious hazardous situations that can lead to serious accidents and fatalities (SIF) during crane operations. The list was compiled by searching relevant security literature and gathering feedbacks from industry experts and practitioners.
T. J. Chantwell, the Executive Director of the NCCCO Foundation, said, "The NCCCO Foundation is pleased to work with our friends at the National Safety Council to provide this new tool to the crane industry. Companies and individuals can simply choose from a variety of common safety hazards, such as fatigue, falling from high altitudes, contact with overhead power lines, equipment overturning/tipping, etc., to develop a variety of control plans to help mitigate or eliminate safety hazards on site. Each control measure is categorized by level of control, a way to identify and rank ways to protect workers from harm, including elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment, allowing users to consider which methods are most effective in their unique situation.
The NCCCO Foundation will host a webinar on March 4, 2025 to discuss the tool with the National Safety Council and crane safety experts. Anyone who are interested can be registered to participate in online seminars in the following website https://bit.ly/addressingsafetyhazardswebinar.
